# Certainish
In progress
Certainish is a book about the moment every leader knows and almost none can name.
## What it is about
The analysis is complete. The dashboards are green. The scenarios have been modeled, debated, and revised.
Everyone agrees you still do not know everything. And nobody quite knows how to say the sentence that would actually move the decision: We do not know everything. But we know enough.
Certainish is Anu's name for that threshold.
Drawing on decades of building and leading companies, and watching thousands of decisions play out in rooms where the stakes were real, Certainish argues that the central leadership problem of our era is not a lack of data. In many ways, we have a surfeit of data.
It is the absence of a clear, honest answer to a single question: when is it enough to move?
Through stories that range from Shackleton on the ice to Blockbuster and Netflix, Kodak and digital cameras, pandemic-era calls made eighteen days before the headlines caught up, and anonymous rooms you will recognize from your own career, the book shows that great leaders are not the ones with the most dashboards. They are the ones whose decision chain holds under uncertainty.
## The decision chain
- Context: reading the field before it becomes a number
- Compass: knowing what you are truly optimizing for when plans collide with reality
- Courage: saying “we know enough” while there is still room to hide behind one more report
- Conviction: holding the decision when doubt, pressure, and new headlines try to pull you back
Certainish does not offer a new analytics method or a heroic origin story. It does not promise certainty, eliminate risk, or hand you a step-by-step playbook.
It gives you something subtler and far more practical: a language for the zone you already live in as a leader, a way to see which link in your chain fails most often, and a sentence you can reach for the next time you are in that room, the data is strong but inconclusive, and everyone is waiting for someone to speak: We do not know everything. But we know enough. Move.
## What you get from it
- A language for the moment where data is strong, but certainty is not
- A clear view of the decision chain leaders rely on under real pressure
- A way to recognize what breaks when decisions stall despite “enough” information
- Stories that show how decisive moves are made before clarity fully arrives
## A note from me
You will rarely have all the answers when it matters most. The real work of leadership is knowing when you already have enough to move.
